Lightmix 50 litres: lightly fertilised and ready to use

Looking for a peat mix with perlite and a light starter feed? Lightmix suits that approach. Plant or repot directly into the medium, then adjust feeding to the plant. Browse all potting soil to compare other mixes.

When should you choose Plagron Lightmix?

Lightmix suits growers who want to build their own feeding programme. The peat mix contains perlite for an airy structure and a light mineral starter feed for roughly the first week. After that, adjust supplementary nutrients to your plant, growth stage and feeding schedule.

The bag offered here contains 50 litres of Lightmix with perlite. You do not need to blend the medium yourself. Choose a pot with drainage and account for the growing medium already surrounding the root ball when repotting.

Peat and perlite, with room to manage feeding

Perlite is already part of this mix; it is not a separate addition you need to buy. Peat forms the base of the medium. The light starter feed makes Lightmix a useful choice when you want to adjust nutrients after the initial stage.

For mineral feeding in soil, use Terra Grow during growth and Terra Bloom during flowering. Browse our Plagron plant nutrients and follow the schedule for your chosen products. Avoid automatically adding a full dose on top of the starter feed.

Growing in coco coir? Use a feeding approach suited to that medium and browse Plagron coco coir. The Lightmix offered on this page is a peat mix with perlite.

50 litre bag of Plagron Lightmix with perlite

How many 50 litre bags do you need?

Add up the volume you intend to fill with fresh soil. Divide the total litres by 50 and round up when ordering. Six empty pots filled with 7 litres each need 42 litres in total: an example where one bag is nominally enough.

When repotting, the existing root ball already occupies space. The nominal pot capacity therefore differs from the amount of fresh soil needed. Include any extra pots in your calculation. Browse plant pots in suitable sizes before deciding on the quantity.

Adjust feeding and watering

With a mineral feeding programme, supplementary nutrients become relevant after roughly the first week. Adjust the dose to the plant and your chosen schedule. Check nutrient water with a pH meter and an EC meter; a soil EC reading and a nutrient-water reading are not interchangeable.

Check moisture in the medium and let excess water drain away. Pot size, plant and conditions determine water needs. Read why measuring pH and EC matters to understand the role of both readings.
