Which plant pot suits your setup?

Start with the growing stage: a small pot for propagation, a suitable plastic pot for growing on, or a Jiffy peat pot to transplant with the plant. Compare more than litres. External dimensions determine the space the pot takes up; allow additional room for the plant, watering and access.

Square plant pots: capacity and external dimensions

3.5 L15 × 15 × 20 cmSquare
6.5 L19.4 × 19.4 × 24.2 cmSquare
7 L20 × 20 × 25 cmSquare

25 L33 × 33 × 35 cmSquare

Match the root ball, capacity and space

For propagation: the 0.5 litre propagation pot provides a small root ball with its own container. Jiffy peat pots measuring 8 × 8 × 8 cm offer a different approach: transplant the pot along with the plant. The individual pot and the box of 1200 have the same stated pot dimensions; choose the pack size for the number you need.

For growing on: square plastic pots are available in 3.5, 6.5, 7, 14, 18 and 25 litres. The round plastic pot holds 15 litres. The volume you need depends on the plant, root ball and intended growing period. A larger pot is not automatically the right next step.

For your layout: check width, length and height. The 6.5 litre pot measures 19.4 × 19.4 × 24.2 cm; the 7 litre pot measures 20 × 20 × 25 cm. These are separate versions. Use the table to compare external dimensions and allow room for a tray and access for watering.

Drainage and growing medium are part of the choice

Pot capacity does not determine a fixed watering volume. Match watering to the root ball, growing medium and conditions. Keep drainage openings clear and avoid leaving the pot in collected water for long periods. Choose a tray that suits the external dimensions and drainage arrangement.

Soil and coco need their own approach. Choose your growing medium first, then match feeding and watering to it. With drip irrigation, measure the actual output per pot before setting a run time.

Repotting and reusing pots

When repotting from plastic, carefully remove the root ball and place it in a suitable larger container. Assess root development and how quickly the medium dries; respond to the plant rather than following a fixed calendar.

A Jiffy peat pot is designed to be transplanted with the plant. Keep the pot and medium appropriately moist and cover the pot wall when planting. Plastic pots can be reused if intact: remove old roots and medium, clear drainage openings and clean the pot before another growing cycle.
