Set a constant speed manually

A standalone fan speed controller or stepped controller lets you select fan speed yourself. The Cli-mate five-speed series comes in 5A, 7A, 11A and 13A versions. This manual series does not follow a temperature probe. Choose a suitable thermostat controller if you want an automatic response to temperature.

Use temperature as the control input

The Cli-mate KC series offers 7A, 12A and 16A versions; MC Multi Controllers offer 7+7A, 12+12A and 16+16A. SMSCOM SPC MK2 controllers come in 8A and 16A versions. Check sockets and permitted loads for the exact model. Include every connected fan and its starting requirements.

Frequency control and combined functions

The Cli-mate FC series offers 3A, 7A and 15A frequency controllers. Check that your motor supports this control method. Mini Controllers combine light switching and climate control; assess lighting sockets separately from fan loads. A 4 × 600W lighting rating does not describe fan capacity.

Check humidity and actual behaviour

Temperature control does not automatically provide humidity control. Assess humidity separately and check which sensor and output each model actually has. Place the temperature probe where it gives a representative reading and assess behaviour with lights on and off. Follow our climate controller settings checklist.

Which control method suits your ventilation?

Do you want to set a constant speed, or should extraction respond to temperature? A manual speed controller and a controller with a temperature probe serve different purposes.

The Cli-mate 16A climate controller belongs to the temperature-controlled KC series. The Cli-mate 15A frequency controller uses frequency control. Choose the method supported by your exact fan motor; a matching plug does not confirm compatibility.

SMSCOM SPC MK2 controllers respond to temperature and have adjustable minimum and maximum fan speeds. Compare the SPC 8A MK2 and SPC 16A MK2 against the permitted load for your setup. Read our climate controller selection guide before connecting equipment.
