Measure the water before adding heat

Check your reservoir temperature at different times, including after topping up with cold water. This tells you whether heating is needed. The air temperature beside the tank does not tell you the exact water temperature.

A tank heater adds heat. It cannot cool the water. If your water is already too warm, review the tank location and nearby heat sources first. Choose a target temperature that suits your plants and growing system.

Match the heater to volume and conditions

The AquaKing HE-500W is rated at 500 W and is intended for 300–500 litres of water. Treat this volume as a starting point and consider the room temperature, heat loss and cold top-up water. The capacity printed on an empty tank is only part of the picture.

Use our guide to choosing water tank capacity to plan your supply. A partly filled tank holds less than its nominal capacity. Heating time therefore varies with the actual setup.

AquaKing HE-500W: thermostat and installation

The AquaKing 500 W tank heater has an adjustable thermostat with a setting range of 22–34 °C. This is the heater’s adjustment range; it does not mean every plant needs temperatures across that whole range. If you need a setting below 22 °C, this range does not match your requirement.

Before fitting the heater, check the required water depth, mounting method and clearance inside your tank. Allow for the lowest water level during operation and follow the instructions supplied with your specific unit. Use a thermometer to check the actual water temperature.

Assess water circulation separately from heating power. Explore our water pumps for circulation and water transfer and check which pump suits your tank and connections.
