Extending flexible ducting calls for a different connector from joining two ventilation fittings. Start by identifying both ends and checking which parts need to slide inside or over the connector. The same nominal diameter does not make the two versions interchangeable.
Compare the 160 mm connector for flexible ducting with the 160 mm connector for fittings. Both have a nominal size of 160 mm, but serve different connection types. The ducting version is shown on the left, the fitting version on the right. The photographs show their shape; they are not dimensional drawings.
Record the internal duct diameter and the outside diameter of the connecting end. Check the available insertion space too. This gives you a practical starting point for replacing an existing joint or building a new duct run.

Our range covers 127, 160, 200, 250, 315, 355, 406 and 455 mm. Each size has a version for ducting and one for fittings. When replacing a part, keep the exact connection size. Do not assume that 125 and 127 mm, 400 and 406 mm, or 450 and 455 mm are equivalent.
If the ends have different diameters, choose a suitable duct reducer. A straight connector joins parts of the same nominal size. Forcing a size mismatch with a larger or smaller connector does not provide a reliable fit.
Check that the parts fit without tension before securing them. Keep the joint accessible and support the ducting and heavier parts separately. Choose a duct clamp whose working range suits the ducting fitted over the connecting end.
Match the fixing and sealing method to the components. Avoid tightening a clamp until the duct deforms. With insulated ducting, connect the air-carrying inner duct first, then finish the insulation and outer jacket. Check for leaks, loose parts and kinks after installation.

Match flanges, connectors and reducers by function and fit. Check both ends and avoid assuming that 125 mm and 127 mm are interchangeable.

Compare right-angle and angled branches. Choose a tee or Y-piece by the duct route, and understand why two outlets do not guarantee equal airflow.
