Setting Spider Farmer LED hanging height and dimming
Distance and intensity work together. Use these steps to match Spider Farmer LED to your crop, available height and light distribution, then check again as plants grow.

Choose distance and intensity together
One fixed hanging height does not suit every Spider Farmer LED fixture. A 33 W SF-300 has a different design and output from a 730 W SE-7000. Crop, growth stage, reflective walls and operating hours also affect the light your plants receive.
Start with the operating requirements for your exact version. Keep the required clearances and choose a suitable initial intensity. A minimum safety clearance is not an instruction to light every crop at full power from that distance.
Allow room for proper hanging
Measure above the expected plant height. Include the fixture, suspension and cable clearance. Use the intended hanging points and keep the light stable and level. Avoid pulling cables against a bar or straining connectors.
Disconnect power before changing connections or mounting hardware and allow hot parts to cool. Check clearance and cable routing again after moving the fixture. Ventilation remains part of your setup even when a light has no cooling fan of its own.
Check the entire canopy
Use a suitable PAR or quantum meter to assess PPFD at crop level. Keep measurements at the same height and spread points across the area. Include the centre, edges and corners. Record distance, setting and measurement positions for a useful comparison next time.
A lux reading is not directly a PPFD measurement. Without a suitable measurement you cannot establish precise intensity for the whole crop. Observe plant response, temperature and air movement too, while keeping these distinct from light measurements.
Adjust one thing at a time
Hang the light level within the required clearance.
Choose an initial setting for your plants and growth stage.
Check distribution across the whole area.
Change height or intensity and compare again under the same conditions.
Record the suitable setting and recheck as plants grow taller.
More power does not automatically correct poor placement. If the centre is too bright while the edges stay dark, assess position and distance first. Then decide whether another fixture shape is needed. Our SF or SE buying guide helps with that decision.
Check dimming and external control by version
Check the controls your light actually has. Slim SF-300 and SF-600 lights are a different product type from the larger panels and SE bar fixtures. Do not use an unsupported mains dimmer. An external controller requires a suitable driver, signal and cables.
A dimmer percentage does not automatically equal the same percentage of electricity consumption. Measure the complete light input when calculating costs. Operating hours also matter: a lower intensity over more hours gives a different daily light total. Match both to your crop.
