Growing supplies

Growing supplies for maintenance: what should you prepare?

A regular care round shows what you use and what is missing. Review support, consumables, insect monitoring, odour control and measuring points before restocking.

ONA gel, a yellow sticky trap and gloves for the maintenance checklist

1. Start with access and support

Walk through the layout as though you were watering and inspecting plants. Can you reach each pot? Are nets and fastening points still secure? Check whether growing plants put stress on support or block your working path.

If you need to replace or extend netting, measure the required piece first. Our support netting guide compares widths and delivery per metre or roll. Do not buy another roll simply because one branch needs help; assess the area you need to support.

2. Prepare clean consumables

Check the size and stock of gloves. Separate used materials and keep clean stock outside the working area. Consider the clothing and protection needed for each task. A category name alone does not establish a universal combination.

Read our glove guide if you are deciding between PU-flex, Grippaz and boxed nitrile. Record the chosen version and size to avoid restocking the wrong package next time.

3. Record insect observations

Inspect leaves and catches on yellow sticky traps. Record where and when you notice changes. Increasing catches call for identifying insects and inspecting the plant, not automatically choosing a random treatment.

Check that the trap is still usable and follow placement and replacement instructions. Follow the label of any product you choose next. Distinguish monitoring, identifying an insect and treating a problem.

4. Check the odour source and air path

A new smell may be related to waste, standing water or changed airflow. Check these before replenishing gel, blocks or spray. Review product placement and the condition of the extraction system.

Odour products and a carbon filter have different functions. Use the specified form and placement. Plan stock from actual use: pack contents do not guarantee a service life or coverage area.

5. Record measurements and make a focused order list

Check temperature and humidity at regular measuring points. Compare changes with earlier observations. A thermo-hygrometer can measure independently; a controller sensor needs the appropriate connection and display.

List the item, size, selling unit and reason for replacement. Check instructions and placement of any fire extinguishing equipment too. Return to growing supplies to select materials that fit your maintenance routine.
