Choosing support netting: per metre or a roll?
Width and delivery form determine how much netting you need. Compare two actual products and follow a measuring sequence to choose netting for your layout.

1. Measure the area that needs support
Measure the width and length of the area where you want to support plants. Record dimensions in the same unit. Decide whether you need one piece or several separate strips. Allow for fastening points and room to tend your plants.
Check whether you can still reach the pots and plants at the back after fitting the net. A tent’s external dimensions do not automatically determine net size: the fastening points and your layout determine its position.
2. Compare the two delivery forms
White netting sold per running metre is 200 cm wide. You choose a length in running metres. The white netting roll measures 1.36 × 100 m. It provides a long length but a smaller width.
Choose the usable width first. A roll is not a wider version of the piece sold by the metre. A roll can be practical for several equal pieces; a shorter length per metre can suit a single setup.
3. Calculate pieces as well as area
An area of 120 × 120 cm fits within the width of both products. Add the space needed for fastening to your piece dimensions first. For multiple pieces, divide the supplied length by your chosen piece length and round down.
A 150 cm wide area does not fit as a single strip within a 136 cm wide roll. An extra join or different layout needs its own fastening plan. Do not compare only the total square metres in the packaging.
4. Fit support early enough
Choose fastening points before branches fill the available space. Fit the net evenly and avoid sharp contact points. Guide plants gently and check fastening as they grow. The support needed depends on the shape of the plant.
Check mesh size for the exact product. A 15 × 15 cm mesh is specified for the netting sold per metre. Do not assume the same opening for every roll or other net. The exact version matters.
5. Check the order before buying
Record width, piece length, number of pieces and fastening allowance. Then check the selling unit and how many pieces or metres you are ordering. A running metre describes length, not one square metre.
