Fixed-motor acoustic box fans

Compare Torin fixed-motor acoustic box fans with metal and MDF housings. Choose for the airflow, connection size and mounting space your system needs. Match the box fan to your carbon filter, ducting and controller; motor mounting alone does not determine noise.

Choosing a fixed-motor box fan

A fixed motor is mounted firmly inside the box. This describes its construction, but does not specify noise, speed control or connection size. Start with the airflow your system needs, then check where the box will be installed.

Our range includes Torin box fans with metal and MDF housings. Both materials are available with fixed motors. Choosing MDF does not automatically mean choosing a suspended motor.

For example, compare the Torin metal 1500 box fan with fixed motor with the Torin MDF 1500 box fan with fixed motor. They belong to the same model class; check the dimensions and flanges of each version before ordering.

Match airflow to the complete duct run

Use the model designation as an initial comparison, rather than a promise of airflow in your installation. A carbon filter, bends and long ducts add resistance. Delivered airflow depends on the operating point of the fan.

For extraction from a grow tent or grow room, consider the whole air path: intake, filter, box fan and exhaust. Keep duct runs short and straight where possible, and avoid kinks. Choose a carbon filter for the airflow and connection size of the complete system.

Plan mounting and motor control together

Check the weight, dimensions and permitted mounting method of the model you choose. Do not place the box directly on tent fabric, and check the load capacity of its support or suspension. Leave access for inspection and maintenance.

Consider vibration travelling through the support as well as air noise at the outlet. A fixed motor does not guarantee quiet operation. Speed control must suit the exact motor type. Match a climate controller to the electrical specifications of the box fan; a matching plug alone is not enough.
