Platinum Under Canopy 150W: when should you add supplementary lighting?

Platinum Under Canopy 150W adds light to lower plant areas. First identify shade from your overhead lighting, then match positioning, dimming and cabling to that supplementary task.

Start with overhead lighting

Under Canopy provides supplementary lighting for lower plant areas. First check that your main fixture is correctly positioned and provides appropriate light above the crop. Extra lights below the canopy do not automatically correct an unsuitable base light plan.

Identify where the crop shades itself and which zones you actually want to illuminate. Choose Platinum Under Canopy 150W for that defined task. If you are still selecting main fixtures, start with our Platinum King 720W and 1000W buying guide.

Target the shaded zones

Map the positions of plants, irrigation and access paths. Find a position from which the bar reaches the intended lower plant areas. Prevent foliage from growing against the fixture and avoid a position that requires moving the light for routine maintenance.

Use the adjustable mounting brackets to secure the light and keep connections accessible. Route cables without strain on connectors and away from moving parts. Follow the clearance requirements of your exact model; one fixed distance will not suit every crop structure and light setting.

Match 0–10V control and cabling

This 150W bar supports 0–10V control. Check the power supply, control cable and any interconnection cable you need before ordering. Power and extension cables are offered separately. A fixture with mounting brackets is not automatically a complete connection kit.

Distinguish power connections from the dimming signal when checking the setup. Check the controller, connectors and cable pinout as one combination. An overhead fixture's RJ14 socket does not establish that the same cabling arrangement suits Under Canopy. Disconnect the installation from power before changing connections.

Assess the supplementary light separately

Record your overhead lighting settings and introduce the extra light in a controlled way. Reassess the illuminated zones, including shade and local temperature. Change one setting at a time so that the effect of positioning or dimming remains identifiable.

A suitable light measurement needs to account for the direction and position of the additional source. Measuring only above the crop will not show what a lower bar adds. Record measurement position, distance and dimming level to make comparisons useful. Extra wattage does not establish a fixed yield increase.

Include consumption and maintenance

At an actual input of 150W, one bar uses 1.8 kWh in twelve hours. This is a calculation example. Add the actual consumption of all supplementary fixtures to the overhead lighting and multiply by operating hours and your electricity tariff.

During cultivation, check whether growing leaves obstruct the light beam or ventilation. Keep the fixture clean within the maintenance requirements of that model. Consider the Platinum King LED range as part of one light plan and ask for advice with your exact lights, controller and room dimensions available.
