Which grow light should you choose for cuttings and young plants?

Start with tray dimensions, available height and even light distribution. Choose lighting you can match to the needs of young plants.

Spider Farmer SF-600 lighting for young plants

Start with the tray rather than a wattage class

Measure the area occupied by the young plants. Include clearance above the trays and the hanging hardware. A long, narrow tray needs a different distribution pattern from a square growing area.

Assess our LED grow lights range by fixture layout. It includes compact panels, bar fixtures and the linear Spider Farmer SF-600, 74W LED kweeklamp. SF-600 is offered as a 74W model. That designation does not promise one fixed coverage area or one suitable distance for every plant.

Check light all the way to the edges

A light map shows readings across a plane. Check area, height and measurement conditions. Look at edges and corners and assess whether the entire tray receives useful lighting. PPF in µmol/s is a source value; PPFD in µmol/m²/s concerns the illuminated measurement plane.

A map for another model or height does not provide a reliable comparison. Let available space and intended distribution determine whether you need one light or several light points.

Check how intensity can be adjusted

Not every LED light has a dimmer. Check the exact version before planning dimming or external controls. A separately available controller does not make a light controllable without a suitable connection.

If the model does not support dimming, assess placement within its mounting guidance. Do not choose an arbitrary minimum distance just to fit a tray. With an adjustable fixture, use settings appropriate to your plant stage and layout.

Match lighting hours to the plants

Cuttings, seedlings and different plant species do not all have the same needs. Match intensity and hours to the species and stage. There is no universal schedule for all young plants. Check distribution and plant response after changes.

Keep the setup manageable

Keep power supplies and connections clear of water and allow room for air movement and heat removal. Check hanging hardware and avoid cable strain. Disconnect power before moving or maintaining the light.
