BioBizz Calmag: when does your water need a supplement?

BioBizz Calmag supplements calcium and magnesium. Soft water and reverse osmosis water make these minerals especially worth checking. We explain when supplementation fits and what to assess first.

Calmag has a specific purpose

BioBizz Calmag is a calcium and magnesium supplement. It is neither a complete growth or flowering fertiliser nor a product for lowering pH. Bio·Grow, Bio·Bloom and Calmag have different functions. That distinction matters when you build a feeding routine or try to identify a problem.

Calcium and magnesium are nutrients your plants need. The amount to add depends in part on your source water and the rest of your programme. Adding a Calmag bottle to every feed by default is therefore a poor starting point.

Assess soft water and reverse osmosis water separately

Soft tap water may contribute limited calcium and magnesium. Reverse osmosis water contains far fewer dissolved minerals after treatment than the original water. Both situations are reasons to assess the mineral supply, but they do not automatically call for the same dose.

Check your water supplier’s analysis or your own water tests. Where possible, assess calcium and magnesium individually. An EC meter measures the combined electrical conductivity of dissolved substances; it cannot identify the individual minerals present. A low EC reading is a reason to investigate further, rather than a complete Calmag calculation.

A leaf problem does not prove a deficiency

Discolouration, spots and slow growth can have several causes. Check watering, the root environment and conditions in the medium first. Also check that you are using the correct base nutrients and the appropriate stage of the BioBizz feeding schedule. More Calmag does not correct unsuitable watering.

Check your equipment before reacting to small measurement differences. Use suitable calibration solutions for your pH and EC meters. pH and mineral composition are different properties: a desired pH does not prove that enough calcium and magnesium are present.

Add Calmag in a controlled sequence

If supplementation is needed, add Calmag to the source water first. Then mix in the regular nutrients separately. Shake the bottle, measure accurately and follow the appropriate product dose for your situation. Never mix concentrated products directly together.

Prepare the amount of water you actually need and keep your reservoir clean. Our guide to cleaning and refilling a nutrient reservoir helps limit residues from earlier mixes. Compare Calmag bottle sizes against your own usage and coordinate the supplement with your base nutrients. That keeps Calmag a targeted adjustment within your routine.
