Lumen King LED hanging height and dimming: a practical guide
Hanging height and dimming determine how your Lumen King LED lights the canopy. Use consistent measurements to find a workable setting and adjust it as your plants grow.

Choose height and dimming together
One fixed distance cannot provide a reliable setting for every Lumen King LED. Power, fixture shape, plant requirements and reflective walls all affect the result. A minimum clearance is not an instruction to light every plant at full power from that distance.
We assess placement together with dimming. Moving a fixture closer can increase central intensity and change distribution. Hanging it higher can provide more spread, within the height available. Begin within the permitted operating conditions for your exact fixture and the needs of your plants.
Prepare the hanging arrangement
Measure clearance above the mature crop. Allow room for the fixture, hangers, cables and any separate supply. Use the intended hanging points and distribute weight so the fixture remains level. Do not tension cables against LED bars or connectors.
Disconnect power before changing connections or mounting hardware, and allow hot parts to cool. A version with a separate ballast has a different electrical arrangement from a fixture with an integrated driver. Never connect an LED array directly to mains power when it requires a compatible separate supply.
Measure at canopy level
Use a suitable quantum or PAR meter to assess PPFD over the growing area. Measure more than the point directly beneath the centre. Space readings evenly and include edges and corners. Keep the sensor at the same height and orientation for a meaningful comparison.
Record fixture distance, dimming, measurement positions and climate conditions. Lux is based on human vision and cannot directly replace a PPFD reading. A single phone reading or peak value cannot assess the complete setup. Without suitable equipment, precise PPFD remains unknown.
Change one setting at a time
Hang the fixture level and check required clearance.
Choose a suitable starting intensity for the crop and growth stage.
Assess distribution across the whole canopy.
Adjust either height or dimming and compare under the same conditions.
Record the workable setting and recheck as the canopy rises.
More power does not solve every dark corner. Different positioning or several suitable fixtures may improve distribution. Compare Lumen King ECO models before adding wattage.
Account for lighting hours and climate
Daily light integral depends on intensity and operating hours. At constant PPFD, calculate DLI as PPFD × hours × 0.0036. For example, 300 µmol/m²/s over sixteen hours gives 17.28 mol/m² per day. This is an example, not a target for every crop. With dimming curves, account for changing intensity throughout the day.
LED fixtures release heat even when passively cooled. Assess temperature and air circulation at plant level. A controller with temperature protection can assist regulation, but cannot replace ventilation. Use our Lumen King controller guide for central control, or compare the Lumen King LED range to choose a suitable starting setup.
