Base nutrients, boosters and enzymes: what is the difference?
Nutrient bottles do not all serve the same purpose. Learn to distinguish base feeds from targeted supplements so you can build a clear programme without adding unnecessary products.
Start with base nutrients
Base nutrients form the programme for your medium and plant stage. Plagron Terra Grow is used for growth in soil and Terra Bloom for flowering. Canna Coco A&B uses two components for coco throughout both stages.
First establish which line fits your system. An A&B pair belongs together; one component alone is not a complete replacement for the pair.
A booster has a specific supporting role
Bloom stimulators and PK products are used alongside a suitable base programme. Their purpose, composition and application periods differ. They are not identical alternatives.
Even products from the same brand need individual assessment. Aptus Regulator has a different role and mixing instructions from a bloom booster. A shared brand does not imply a shared dose.
Enzymes are not a complete feed
Plagron Pure Zym is an enzyme product. It serves a different function from Terra Grow or Terra Bloom. A 1 L bottle describes packaging, not how much base nutrition it provides.
Choose an enzyme product for its intended application in your programme. Use the appropriate dose and consider other products added at the same time.
Ask three questions about each extra bottle
What specific function does it serve? When should I use it? How does its dose fit my current programme? If you cannot answer these questions, adding more feed is not a clear next step.
When problems appear, also check irrigation, medium and measurements. Extra products can make the cause harder to identify. We help you review your base line and doses first.
Keep the programme traceable
Record water volume, each addition and relevant readings for every batch. Change one element deliberately and review how it fits your programme. Do not combine complete feeding schedules by adding all their doses together.
