Plan your ventilation setup: from incoming air to duct connections
Plan the air route before choosing components. This checklist helps you match the fan, carbon filter, ducting and controller.

1. Draw the air route
Record room dimensions and the positions of lights and plants. Mark where replacement air enters and where extraction ends. Avoid routing the outlet straight back towards the inlet.
Map ducting before selecting components. Allow for doors, frame tubes, power cables and the space needed to mount equipment.
2. Assess the airflow you need
Room volume is a starting point. Heat load, incoming air and duct resistance also matter. A carbon filter and bends can reduce actual airflow.
Assess an inline or acoustic box fan using its fan curve and expected system resistance. A nominal rating does not guarantee airflow after installation.
3. Match the filter to the setup
Check the filter’s recommended airflow, flange diameter and available mounting volume. A filter with the right flange can still be too long or too wide for its position.
Leave space to replace and inspect the pre-filter. A shared brand name or a similar number in a product title does not establish a suitable match.
4. Check every connection
Measure fan and filter connections, then choose ducting and fittings. A reducer can join different sizes but does not enlarge a narrower duct.
Keep runs short and straight where possible. Extend flexible ducting carefully and avoid kinks. Choose clamps with a suitable adjustment range for the actual joint and check sealing separately.
5. Match control to the motor
Check whether the fan uses an AC or EC motor and which control method it supports. Compare connections and permitted load per output. A separate controller is not automatically compatible with every fan from the same brand.
6. Check the result after installation
Follow the fan’s airflow direction and inspect joints, mounting and incoming air. Then measure under normal operating conditions. Repeat checks when changing duct routes, lighting or settings. Keep dimensions and model codes for later upgrades.
